"Julie made taking photos so easy and fun. I never realised a few simple tips could make such a difference. I now have so many wonderful memories captured on my phone, and I'm much more confident using my camera wherever I go." — Debbie

One of my favourite memories is meeting Debbie each week for a walk around the beautiful Merimbula Boardwalk and other local walking tracks. We loved catching up, enjoying the scenery and, of course, taking plenty of photos along the way.

During our walks we'd chat, enjoy the scenery and practise using our smartphone cameras. I shared simple photography tips that made taking better photos easy and fun. One of Debbie's favourites was my "3-second selfie" trick. By setting the camera timer to three seconds and switching to selfie mode, she had just enough time to stretch out her arm, smile naturally and capture a much better photo. It quickly became part of our routine.

We also explored other easy photography techniques, including finding the best light, choosing interesting angles and composing photos that really captured the moment. Before long, using her smartphone camera felt natural and capturing special memories became part of every walk.

Over time, Debbie became much more confident using her phone camera and discovered a real love of photographing the places we visited and preserving special memories. What started as a few simple photography tips soon became greater confidence with technology as a whole. She was no longer hesitant to explore the features on her phone and enjoyed using it every day.

Debbie's story is a wonderful reminder that learning technology doesn't always have to start with something complicated. Sometimes it begins with something enjoyable, like taking better photos on a walk, and grows into the confidence to use technology more often in everyday life. That's what Digital Mentor Network is all about—learning at your own pace, building confidence and creating lasting memories along the way.
